C1 – The role of governments and all stakeholders in the promotion of ICTs for development

Through this program the capacity of the master trainers has been built in using technologies in education and teaching methodologies. This program has provided employment to over 200 women and has transformed them into ICT ambassadors in their area. They have also motivated other girls to acquire ICT education. This project will enhance learning capabilities of the students and other stakeholders like school staff. ICT for Girls program has initiated a ripple effect with far reaching positive impact. The impact of the project led to expansion of the project to the rest of the country and was transformed to a regular program “ICT for Girls”. All the key stakeholders then committed to substantially enhance the scope of the project and make it a success. So far, USF has established 370 state of the art ICT facilities with 6,372 computer terminals, high speed broadband internet and other necessary ICT equipment. USF plans to create 500 ICT facilities across the country with high speed internet and necessary ICT equipment.

United for Hope and Shakti Empowerment Solutions’ Smart Village strategy combines education and entrepreneurial business opportunities to transform the lives of India’s rural poor. We work with and for underserved villagers to address community issues and build new attitudes and structures. We have successfully implemented wide-ranging social development programs in our pilot SV of Tirmasahun in Uttar Pradesh, Northern India. Our approach is both for-profit and non-profit, and requires investment and commitment from those being served. We organize projects with a holistic approach through three overarching pillars: social enterprise education community support. In our area, millions lose their rights, assets and education because of the lack of access to information.

EyeBorg

HandEyes is an Ecuadorian project that is in charge of developing products and technological tools that improve the quality of life of people with visual disabilities. The goal of HandEyes is to achieve a more inclusive society by developing electronic devices that can change and impact the lives of blind people. Thus, they developed "EyeBorg", a superficial implant that through an actuator allows people to have an increased perception of the environment. EyeBorg allows the user to feel how far the obstacle is from and also allows him to verify the dimensions of the obstacle with a slight movement of the head, thus improving the ability to orient himself and his mobility. The idea is to generate a new sense for the blind people with our technology.
